When you grow up in one of the neighborhoods in Boston…..or if your raised by someone who did…you learn to carry yourself a certain way. Your accent and cynical nature is truely unique…ohhh and you learn to talk very fast. Boston has the record for the fastest speakers in the country. Check out this Paddy Quinn production….the Polo hat part is priceless.

There’s 3 things that all Massachusetts boxing fans will always let you know. Rocky Marciano was undefeated, Mickey Ward is made of steel, and Hagler beat Leonard.
Brockton has been home to some of the best fighters this world has ever seen, and this weekend Brockton lost one of it’s favorite sons, Goody Petronelli. This was the man who made Marvin Hagler “marvelous”. He was 88 years old…
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and the City of Champions.

1968, Boston, Boston Garden, James Brown, Kevin White, mayor, politics, Riots

Many of us don’t remember, but this is a snapshot of a place in time where Kevin White and James Brown helped to calm the black population of Boston after losing MLK to an assassin’s bullet. This concert was almost cancelled out of fear of rioting….but Kevin White saw this as an opportunity to celebrate King’s life. He let the concert happen and pressed WGBH to televise the concert. While the black populations were rioting across the rest of the country, acting out in anger over losing yet another leader. Black folks in Boston stayed relatively calm….and many people attribute that to Kevin White and James Brown.
Kevin White was a progressive man and was exactly what we needed during those turbulent times. He will go down as one of the greats of Boston politics.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

It’s time to do a spotlight on a band that is as readily identified with Dorchester as our beloved Street Dogs. Dead Friends was formed in the fall of 2008 and have spent the last 3 years refining their hardcore punk sound. They say all music can invoke an emotion, the Dead Friends sound makes me want to tear down the Mass Pike in a vintage muscle car or pinball through a massive mosh pit.
I had a chance to speak a bit with front man and fellow Dot Rat Mark Doherty today and he’s excited about the future of the band. He mentioned the band is working on a new album entitled “Institutionalized”. They have also managed to grab the #1 spot on the WZLX Boston Emissions Music Poll last week for their song “Stand Up”. You can find that single on iTunes by clicking HERE. The rest of their work can be found HERE.
I think the future is bright for Dead Friends, they are a hard working band with great influences. Keep and eye on them…..
Go grab one of their tshirts with that killer logo…
Here’s a ton of links for the band….

Like any Bruins fan I have grown to love Tim Thomas, we owe him our gratitude for years to come. I have no problem with his decision not to show up at the White House. If you really think about it, his boycott is truly the essence of Boston. This is the cradle of liberty and we have quite a history of standing up to the powers that be.
He doesn’t think the federal government is holding true to what the founding fathers envisioned. He’s right….it’s probably not what they envisioned.
Our founding fathers probably didn’t envision the industrial revolution, a civil war, an end to slavery, female voters, a catholic president, a black president, illegal immigration, corporate greed, the great depression, the great recession, 2 world wars, the cold war, health care costs, our oil dependency, the environment, the Bush family, sending our jobs to China, nuclear weapons, civil rights, lobbyists, the illegal drug trade or September 11th.
Our federal government is far from perfect but it has managed to adapt to an ever-changing world. Of course it’s not what the founding father’s envisioned…..but thank god they gave it the ability to change.
I love Tim but maybe he shouldn’t watch so much Glenn Beck…..dude is a screwball. The Gadsden flag on the back of his mask is pretty bad ass though…

Never Forgive – Never Forget – US Navy Seals
I won’t get mad, I’ll just get even – Bill Belichick
This may sound crazy, but I would actually pay money to hear what Bill has to say before the game against the Giants. Revenge will certainly be the theme….but how he puts it together to motivate the players will epic I’m sure.
