Is this robot really going to help bring jobs back into the US? If you think about it, Baxter is the equivalent of one Chinese laborer. I’m guessing one Baxter would be priced at around 25 to 30k. When all the technology has matured and you factor in the company recouping all the money spent on R&D….you may hit 10 to 15k…then throw in maintenance costs and a possible yearly support contract. Technology has always been America’s strong suit and I can totally see us competing with a robot as part of the formula.
But you always have to consider the greed factor. You get some overpaid tight ass CEO who thinks he can squeeze a few more rubles into his bonus check by putting Baxters all over his production floor. This hits the Wall Street Journal and it’s game over….kiss your US Manufacturing renaissance goodbye. Then it’s time to kick Baxter off a bridge.
You may have heard the ranting over the past few months over the use of the Uber app and how it’s been taking money out of the hands of Taxi drivers all over the city. Have no fear cabbies! Hailo should be live soon to level the playing field.
Hailo was born in England and the crew has managed to secure 20 million in capital to expand into the states. Hailo is already proven itself as a game changer in London…I don’t see it being much different here in Boston.
I see bright future for this company!
Where do people get the time to sit on a sidewalk for 2 days for a f*cking IPhone? Technology is a wonderful thing…don’t get this geek wrong …but it’s an IPhone. Even if these folks have jobs, why would they want to waste a day off to hug a sidewalk on Boylston Street for a phone? Do these folks even make phone calls? Are we substituting an IPhone for a void in our lives?
Lets examine an ideal day off for me….
- Sleep Late
- Have Sex
- Eat Breakfast
- Have Sex
- Take another nap
- Have Sex
- Pretend to cut the hedges
- Talk about Dinner while making a pitch for more sex.
- Quiet Time/Pats Game
- Pats Win – Sex / Pats Lose – Sympathy Sex
- Another Nap
- Dinner – Preferably takeout to avoid cleaning dishes
Productive? No….but it’s a day off….it’s time to recharge and be social. But if you take sex out of that entire list….then fill the slots with IPhone usage/obsession…..
“DING DING DING….you found the void….what does he win Jim?”
“Pack your Geiger counter and get ready for an all expenses paid trip for one to Beatty Nevada to participate National Foursquare championship where you will compete to become the first Mayor of Yucca Mountain.”
Point: Spend less time filling voids and more time filling voids.

I’m a fan of technology and the folks over at Boston based Apperian tweeked my interest today. Their product Augmented Reality is just flat out bad ass. Obviously it has great uses for the public, but you have to wonder what something like this could mean for the Pentagon….well…if they don’t have it already. I just see a bundle of possibilities here.
So I posted a quick piece on the Boston game development scene yesterday and then I see this. Looks like Assassins Creed 3 will feature Boston during the British occupation….more importantly the Battle of Bunker Hill.
What a perfect storyline….
Listen, I don’t pretend to know every protocol for FAA communications or the security of our commander in chief. I have always been fascinated by flight and I’m scheduled to take my own flying lessons soon. But wouldn’t you think all communications between Air Force One and our regional approach centers and towers would be secure? In my mind, in a post 9/11 world there’s no reason for the public to know what vicinity the president’s jet is in or have any data on coordinates. Why is this dude sitting in a SUV listening in on a scanner? I’m guessing he’s a hobbyist…but it’s still a little unsettling.
If you have a greater understanding of this than I do…please chime in.
As you all know we have a boatload of brain power within a few square miles of Boston Common. This has also led to us becoming a hotbed for game development. If you just can’t get your kids off the xbox or playstation….why not make it a career option? These guys make really good money….and they absolutely love what they do.
